GIE Monétique/ALGERIA/electronic payment

Presentation The implementation of an efficient electronic payment system is one of the priorities of the Algerian public authorities. It is part of the tools for modernizing the banking system, alongside the electronic clearing system for mass payment instruments. The creation of the Economic Interest Group for Payment Systems (GIE Monétique) in June 2014 supported this strategic approach by regulating the interbank electronic payment system and defining the missions and responsibilities of all the stakeholders involved in this system. It is also responsible for ensuring the interoperability of the electronic payment system between banks and its compatibility with local and international payment networks. GIE Monétique consists of 19 member institutions, including 18 banks and Algérie Poste. The Bank of Algeria participates as a non-member participant to ensure the security of payment systems and payment instruments, as well as the development and relevance of the standards applicable in this field, in accordance with the regulations in force. GIE Monétique manages the electronic payment system through the following essential functions: * Management of standards, specifications and norms in the electronic payment sector; * Definition of banking electronic payment products and the rules governing their operational implementation; * Management of the technical routing platform; * Certification and approval; * Security management. It thereby promotes transparency in the definition of standards and rules governing electronic payment activities, in order to encourage investment initiatives in the electronic payment industry. The objective is to promote electronic payment by encouraging the widespread use of electronic payment methods.
